                                                             Spotlight on...

                                        GREG "HAWK" HOTHAM

Greg has been a member of BCC since 1987.  He won our overall Club Championship in 2007 and has finished as the runner up a half dozen times.  He won our Senior Club Championship this past June in just the second year of senior eligibility.

One thing is certain.  The pressure of lining up a 10 foot putt on the big stage of the Mid-Am Championship will be nothing to Greg compared to what he dealt with playing defense for the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Pittsburgh Penguins from 1979-1985.

Greg’s 230 games in the NHL (60 with the Leafs / 170 with Pittsburgh) were preceded and followed by stints with the Saginaw Gears in the IHL, Dallas Black Hawks in the CHL, New Brunswick Hawks in the AHL, Cincinnati Tigers in the CHL, the AHL’s Baltimore Skipjacks and the Newmarket Saints, the last team he played for before he retired from pro hockey in 1990.

Greg’s sons Scott, 30 and Andrew, 28 are both professional hockey players.  Last year Scott played in the Austrian Hockey League and Andrew played with the Wheeling Nailers in the ECHL and the Oklahoma City Barons in the AHL.

Greg’s wife Janine doesn’t play hockey, but according to some of Hotham’s friends, she too has a wicked slap shot.

We asked Greg where his “Hawk” nickname originated.  He insists that he earned it because of his hawk like vision on the golf course and that it has absolutely nothing to do with his nose.

Greg works for FMP Mortgage Investment in Barrie, is a past President of The Barrie Country Club and was appointed to a second three year term on the Board of Directors in January of this year.  If anyone isn’t impressed with Greg’s athleticism, or his passion and dedication to the Barrie Country Club, maybe, just maybe, that person needs a good stiff body check.
